Earlier I talked a little bit about stress, and how you can deal with it. One of the most effective ways might be to prioritize. When you find yourself having a lot on your plate, you need to figure out what’s most important right now.
Sometimes I get so excited about all my ideas and new-found inspiration that I get overwhelmed. There’s so much I wanna do, but where do I start? Feeling overwhelmed can easily lead to not doing anything. That’s the opposite of what I had in mind.
So how do you prioritize?
- Let’s start by making a list of all the things you “have to do”.
- What is the most urgent?
- What is the most important to you?
- What can wait?
- Maybe you can even scratch something from the list?
Maybe the list doesn’t look as long as it felt. Personally I can get stressed and feel like I have a thousand things to do. When I take a closer look and write it down, it actually doesn’t look that bad.
For example: Right now there’s so much on my “to do” list. I have work, blogging, audition, appointments, hanging out with friends, cleaning, phone calls, workout, the list can go on and on. Somewhere in between it all you’re supposed to relax, watch a movie, eat, and chill.
What is the most urgent? Work. Appointments.
What is important? Well, pretty much everything, but I can make a hierarchy. Maybe…Work, appointments, audition, friends, relax.
What can wait? Cleaning. No one is going to die if I don’t clean the apartment right now.
This means that my number one priority is work. Then maybe when I get home from work I’ll decide to make my phone calls, followed by whatever I feel is important after that. Then I’ll make a short list out of it. You get it? Now it’s your turn!
