Release for Jack Daniel’s “7 Crafts”

Jack Daniel’s “No 7 Crafts”, hand bound book of the 7 crafts

My extremely talented boyfriend Evan has been working on project for Jack Daniel’s no.7, and now it’s finally released. They have created a book with seven crafts inspired by Jack Daniel’s, and Evan has taken all the photos for it. There are three people presented in the book: Sam the artist, Aadel the coffee brewer, and Nisj the music producer. They have each made a craft and drink based on Jack Daniel’s. They are all so talented and have created some really cool stuff.

It was awesome to finally meet the people behind the project, and the artists, since I’ve hears so much about them. The book turned out really well, and the drinks tasted great! I’m definitely going to make some at home.

Once again: You all have done an amazing job, and I am so freaking proud of you Evan!

Review: Jaybird Wireless Headphones

My inspiration has been somewhat lacking lately. I’m ready to get back on track though! It’s Monday, meaning it’s time to make plans and set goals for the upcoming week, remember? I actually have a bunch of fun stuff to look forward too, and I’ll make sure to update more frequently.

To start this week I want to share an awesome gift I received from the love of my life: The Jaybird wireless headphones. When I got home late on Friday night after having a couple of drinks there was a box waiting for me on the kitchen counter. It’s not even my birthday!

This was the perfect gift. When I go out walking or running I always keep my phone in one of those armbands because I rarely have pockets that are big enough for my phone (and I don’t even have a big phone…). Anyways, when connecting the headphones they keep falling out of my ears because I swing my arms walking. This have resulted in pretty boring walks with me listening to my breath (or God forbid my thoughts!), and traffic sound.

Until now: Now I got these great Jaybird headphones. They might not look like they work, but I’ve tried them on and they’re sticking to my ears perfectly! No cords tangling around my arms, or flapping around in the wind. They even cancel out the surrounding sound and are sweat proof. It’s almost too good to be true.

If you’re looking for a pair of headphones to wear when you go running/walking/exercising in general, I can definitely recommend the Jaybird wireless headphones. It was a little tricky to assemble them but once they’re up and running you won’t be disappointed. There’s two ways to wear them: Over the ear, or regular like shown in the photo. I preferred the regular way.

Summary of the Jaybird wireless headphones:

+ Great sound and noise reduction

+ Wireless = no flapping cords

+ 3 different sizes of ear inserts, and you can choose between memory foam or silicon

+ 3 different sizes of the attachment “wings”

+ Sweat proof

+ Convenient box for storage

+ Easy to charge with USB, and battery lasts for 8 hrs

-The price… Even though I think they’re worth it, they’re quite expensive

– Lacking assembling instructions, although they’re easy to find online

Recipe: Rice Krispies Treats

This is the easiest no-bake recipe ever. Rice Krispies Treats aren’t very common in Sweden, but I think it’s about time to change that! It’s so easy and delicious. Perfect to make with your kids, for your kids, or just for yourself…With just a few ingredients and no oven-bake, there’s really no reason not to make Rice Krispies Treats.

You need:

  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies
  • 3 tbsp of butter (ca 42 grams)
  • One bag of Little Becky’s Marshmallows (280 grams) (Important to get the right brand here. There’s a big difference between the American and Swedish marshmallows)
  • 18 x 13 inches pan

  1. Melt the butter in a big pot
  2. Pour in the marshmallows and stir on low heat until it’s all melted
  3. Add the Rice Krispies and mix it around
  4. Line a pan with baking paper and pour the mixture in it as even as possible
  5. Let cool down and drizzle with some melted chocolate

Pro tip:

When adding the mixture into the pan it will get extremely sticky. To avoid this, cover your spoon or spatula with butter.

Also, go crazy with the topping. You can put anything on there!

That’s it! I stored the Rice Krispies Treats in the fridge overnight to make the chocolate stiffen. However, they taste the best in room temperature.

Psst! While you’re at it, why not make these Rice Krispies Peanut Butter Balls?

HTC Vive Demo

Wow. I am speechless. Today I got a glimpse of the future: Virtual Reality. My boyfriend took me to Webbhallen at Fridhemsplan here in Stockholm, where you can try a demo of the new HTC Vive. He’s been so stoked about this for almost a year now, but I’ve never really understood why. Until now. I’ve never tried the anything like this before, but now I’m hooked.

I don’t know how to explain the feeling, you have to experience it yourself to fully comprehend what it’s like. I didn’t really know what to expect, but whatever I had in mind it was a thousand times cooler than I ever could’ve imagined. The demo went on for 20 minutes and you got try four different “games”, some more interactive than others. You get to literally be down at the bottom of the ocean, watching whales swim by. Or how about being at the office making copies and drinking coffee and eating donuts. Or shooting little robots in space… Or painting in 3D. I can’t pick a favorite, they were all so cool.

I don’t know much about technology, but I think the HTC Vive was great. The graphics were good as long as you place the headset on correctly, and there was no lagging when turning your head/moving around. The best part was definitely the fact that you can move, walk around, and grab things, thanks to the hand controls. The HTC Vive, or VR( Virtual reality) in general, is going to be our future. You can live your whole life through it: Travel the world (or space), be “at work”, or just paint all day long. Imagine if you’re in a wheelchair: VR would make it possible for you to swim around the ocean or climb Mount Everest. It’s like the first step to the Matrix.

If you ever have the opportunity to try the HTC Vive, do it! I can’t explain how freaking cool it is.

If my bf pre-booked it? Take a guess…

Spice Up Your Kale

Kale, kale, kale. You’ve all heard about how healthy and trendy it is to eat right now. Kale salad, kale chips, kale pancakes, kale everything. There’s no doubt about the nutritional value of kale. It’s full of vitamins A, C, K, and B6, and minerals like iron, calcium, and potassium. However, boiling the kale will diminish all of this, so you’ll have to steam it or eat it raw if you want all the vitamins etc. Then we reach our problem: Raw kale is not that yummy. At least this was true before I found out how to make it delicious!

Spice up your kale:

You need:

  • Kale
  • Lemon
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt

  1. Take your kale and press some lemon juice over it.
  2. Sprinkle olive oil and salt.
  3. Mix it around, or “massage it” as Cassey said.
  4. Let sit for 10 minutes before eating it. Mix it in a salad or eat it as a side dish to your regular meal.

This is what it might look like when it’s done. In my bowl you’ll find spinage, kale, olives, steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, and some fried halloumi.

Review: Davines Minu Shampoo & Conditioner

I’ve got a little bit of a writers block, or maybe I should say a blogging block. I have some ideas of what to do, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to execute it. My goal is to get productive this weekend.

Meanwhile I’ve got another product review in store for you: Davines “Minu” shampoo, conditioner, and serum. I told you about my experience with the Kevin Murphy products before, so this time I wanted to try a different brand.

Here’s my thoughts of the Davines “Minu” hair products:

+ The smell. It’s different, and I like it. It’s not “girly” or “manly”, but just… nice and fresh.

+ The packaging. It feels so luxurious to receive the product in a nice little bag.

+ The serum. I love it! Apply in towel dried hair and it will leave it smooth and soft without making it heavy.

– No extra volume. My hair is so thin and flat by nature I need all the volume I can get. Event though the Kevin Murphy didn’t do wonders, the Davines did even less.

-The packaging for the conditioner. It’s big and bulky, nearly impossible to get open without breaking three nails. I guess the only benefit is that you’ll be able to get every last drop of it.

-Eczema. Yes. Again even more so than the Kevin Murphy. I think it’s because the Davines “Minu” products contains caper blossom extract. Plants (or anything natural) are rarely good for eczema. I need to stick to my lab tested chemicals.

Over all I wouldn’t say the Davines “Minu” shampoo and conditioner is a bad product. Although I might not purchase this particular product again, I would definitely be open to try a different Davines product.

Best TV Show Right Now: 11.22.63

In need for a new TV show to binge watch? Look no further, I have the answer: 11.22.63. I just finished watching this mini-series (only 1 season) and I loved it! I mean, James Franco dressed up in 1960’s fashion- what could go wrong? The TV show is based on a novel by Stephen King. It may sound a little stupid when you read about it, but I promise you it’s anything but stupid. The show/novel is about a teacher (Franco) who travels back in time to stop the assassination of JFK in 1963. So yes, a little science fiction is involved, but for the most part everything is pretty “normal” and nothing is ever over the top crazy.

Personally, I didn’t know that much about the JFK assassination so it was interesting to learn more. I can definitely recommend you to watch 11.22.63. Just one warning: The first episode is very long, but after that they’re around 45-50 minutes.

Travel Guide: L.A. Part 2

There’s an endless amount of things to do in L.A., and there’s something for everyone. Since it was my first time in L.A. (and US) I wanted to check out the “touristy” things as well as the “real” stuff. During vacation, time is limited so you’ll have to prioritize where you wanna go first. My advice is to make a list of places you wanna check out, and then do them on whatever day you feel like. Some things you might have to plan out more, if you have to buy tickets etc. but personally I’m not a big fan of planning out every single minute of my vacation. For me, being spontaneous is half the fun.

Here’s a few places I really enjoyed in L.A.:

Knott’s Scary Farm

This was my no. 1 favorite place to go. It is so freaking cool. Have you been to Gröna Lund’s haunted house? Take that times 100 and you’ll get Knott’s Scary Farm. During the day this is Knott’s Berry Farm: an amusement park with roller coasters, fun, and games. At night on Halloween it turns into the Scary Farm: Foggy alleys, ghosts that chases you, at least 10 haunted houses so cool and scary you’ll piss your pants, zombie laser dome, etc. Of course some of the roller coasters are open as well. You can definitely expect a lot of people and long lines, so be here in time when they open. The lines to the haunted houses are long, but they don’t take that long in time. Believe me when I say it’s worth it.

This is not for the easily frightened.

Los Angeles Zoo

Maybe the opposite to the Scary Farm. Who does not like animals? The Los Angeles Zoo is huge, and I got to see a bunch of animals I never seen before: Koala bears, flamingos, etc. Of course there’s always that gnawing thought in the back of my head saying that it’s not nice to cage animals. However, these animals seem to have it pretty OK. My advice is to go here when it’s not too hot or sunny (good luck…) because then the animals hide in the shade. We were lucky and got see them all.

Six Flags Magic Mountain

OK, if Knott’s Scary Farm was the Gröna Lund’s haunted house times 100, Six Flags is Gröna Lund times 1000. There’s an endless amount of roller coasters here, bigger and crazier than you’ve ever seen before. The first one we rode was the world’s largest loop… And I got a panic attack and started crying afterwards. Besides from that we went on Goliath, where we both almost blacked out from the G force, and X2000 where you lay down with your feet loose and go backwards. It’s supposed to feel like you’re weightless in space, but I felt more like I was about to die. My advice is to ride it last, because we got so nauseous we couldn’t do anymore after that.

Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier

Looking for something with less drama? You can’t go to L.A. without visiting Venice Beach and Santa Monica. You’ve seen it movies and TV shows, and it looks exactly the same in reality. The long beach walk in Venice is filled with unique characters, tourist shops, market stands, street entertainers, as well as a few weed shops.

When in Santa Monica check out the pier and the main shopping street. Here you’ll feel like home with all the Swedes. You’ll also find stores like Forever21, Converse, Victoria’s Secret, etc. However, since it’s so popular to come here shopping my advice is actually to go a mall somewhere else. A lot of the stores are half empty here.

Obviously you have to check out Hollywood. Here you can just walk around and soak in the atmosphere among the crowd.

What else?

Go shopping at one of the huge malls, do your nails (so price worthy: For shellac I payed like 100kr), and go to Target. At Target you’ll find all kind of fun stuff to fill your suitcase with. Just look at how happy you’re boyfriend will be after 2 hours and a couple of thousand kr later.

Like I said, there’s an endless amount of things to do. Here you got a few at least.

# Pedicure

Remember how I showed you my manicure routine a while ago? Today I did the same procedure to my feet, but then it’s called a pedicure instead. We use our feet from the age of 1 to the day we die. We only get one pair of feet. Imagine how much we use them, yet they’re easily forgotten. Some people even find them disgusting. How often do you tend to your feet? When was the last time you gave them some love?

No wonder people think feet are gross when no one cares for them. Just because you can hide them in your socks and shoes, that doesn’t mean they don’t need some loving once in a while. If you ask me, hands are way more disgusting. Sure, feet can stink like nothing else, but at least you know where they’ve been. A foot locked up in a shoe vs. a hand you have no idea where it went before shaking yours? I’ll pick the foot.

Thank you my little feetsies for always being there for me, lifting me up (literally). You are not forgotten.

How to do your own mini spa pedicure:

  1. Tap up some hot water (careful not to scold your feet, but at the same time you don’t want it to be lukewarm). Add foot salt. For extra moisture put some vegetable oil in there.
  2. Dip your feet and sit and relax for at least 10-15 minutes. Maybe practice some mindfulness?
  3. Dry your feet and scrub away!
  4. Scrape off the dead skin on your toe nails with the orange stick, and gently “poke” down the cuticles
  5. Cut the cuticles and toe nails
  6. Rinse off and moisture your feet (you can use olive oil for that as well)

Relax, Have Some Fun!

franklinmarshall08-1194145 (1)

The other day I got the question: “Rosie, what are you doing just for fun?”. I was dumbfounded. I rarely do anything just because it’s fun unless there’s a purpose to it. For me “fun” is a waste of time. However, it really got me thinking. Who’s to say having fun is a waste? Relaxing is a part of recreation. Having breaks during your work days has proven to make you more productive, so why wouldn’t the same be applied in your everyday life? Just as resting intbetween workouts build up your muscles, resting your mind build up your mental power.

I think it’s easy to get caught up in the race to be “perfect” with better clothes, more abs, healthier food, better job, cleaner home. What happens if you take a step back, don’t look at Instagram or Facebook for a day, then what do you care about? It’s only human to want to be the best, but do you wanna be the best to show everyone else, or do you wanna be the best for you?

So let’s lighten up a little bit. We only live once, so have some fun!

What do you do just for fun?
