I have discovered the enjoyment of listening to podcasts lately. I know they’ve been around for ages, but I’ve always stuck to music. Now on the other hand, I much prefer podcasts whenever I’m commuting to an from work or are out walking. Sometimes I feel like listening to something “heavier”, and sometimes I just wanna have laugh. Regardless, I feel like podcasts are a great way to get entertained and at the same way get some new perspectives of life. By listening to others we can learn so much about ourselves.

Here are my top 5 podcasts that I listen to right now (In no particular order):

Invisibilia

This is a NPR podcast about all the invisible psychological powers that surround us. Journalists Alix Spiegel, Lulu Miller, and Hanna Rosin talk about everything from how our clothes effect our intelligence (Yes it is true!), to what would happen if we felt no fear, can we fake it until we make it, and can we change our personality? Listen to stories about the man who was trapped inside his own body for years, paralyzed and fully conscious, while the doctors said that he had the intelligence of a 2 year old, and what happened when he woke up. Or the girl who literally cannot feel fear. Or the man who went from mending Nazi shirts to dress presidents like Obama and Clinton (And who is funnier). Listen to interviews with famous psychologists and take part of new, and old, exciting studies.

Bill Burr

In the mood for something lighter? Listen to one of the best stand-up comedians today; Bill Burr rambles about everything from life observations to angry outbursts, and sports. He also gives advice to his listeners sending in emails. I think I like listening to Bill because he reminds me of my boyfriend. The humor is dark, satiric, and just funny as h*ll. My favorite episodes are the one’s where his wife Nia joins and kinda brings some balance to it all. Just give it a try. And if you don’t like it, I don’t like you.  Also, Bill has a new Netflix show called F is for Family, so you could always check that out.

TED Talk

Another NPR podcast production based on the TED Talks. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. They have such a great variety of subjects so you will always find one that catches your interest. This podcast reminds me of Invisibilia, but they have a more diverse selection of themes. I love listening to TED Talks because I’m always learning something new. Also, it gives you so many conversation ideas, topics to discuss, and anecdotes to tell.

Classic Loveline

Back to something lighter again. Listen to Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew giving relationship advice to listeners calling in. Personally I like the Classic Loveline from 1996-1998. I’m not sure why though, maybe because Adam is hilarious, or maybe because it’s interesting to hear that people had the same kind of problems back then as now. Sometimes they have guests, mostly famous artists or actors from the time. I’ve heard some really crazy stories on this podcast, and it makes me laugh, but it also makes me so grateful for the lack of love drama in my own life.

Swedish: Alex och Sigge

I don’t know why, but I prefer to listen to English speaking podcasts. However, I did give Alex & Sigge a shot, and I have to say it was pretty good. I wish it was in English so I could have my boyfriend listen to it as well because this is Swedish humor when it’s the best.

All of the above podcasts are available in Apple’s Podcast app.
